You Are Privileged.

Uncle Sam pointing finger

  • You are privileged if you had many books in your home as a child.
  • You are privileged if most of the other children you went to school with looked like you.
  • You are privileged if you have never been told that you could not have a certain career or job because of your gender.
  • You are privileged if no one from your family has ever been to jail or imprisoned.
  • You are privileged if your ancestors came to this country on their own accord.
  • You are privileged if you grew up with two parents in your home.

You had no influence over these factors in your life. They are part of the environment in which you were born. The family that raised you. The community where you lived.

Why should it be acceptable for a child raised without these privileges to hold a different place in society than you?

The beauty is, all of these privileges have been created and influenced by the cultures around us. They are not Kingdom privileges.

There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:28

In God’s ideal world, the Kingdom of Heaven, there is no difference between privilege and not, no separation between one background and another. But until we reach that day, how can we seek God’s will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven?

May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:10

Here’s how:

  • What resources and opportunities do you have that can be shared for the sake of the Kingdom?
  • How can you share those resources without seeking glory, fame or power? How can you do them simply for God’s glory?
  • When was the last time you interacted with someone who didn’t look like you, sound like you, grow up like you or have a similar lifestyle as you?

Share what God has blessed you with.

Hear a new story this week.

Show God’s goodness through all that you do and say and give this Advent.

Be people of humility and of the Kingdom, and allow God to change your neighborhood and your city through you.

After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands.

Revelation 7:9

If you are a person of the Gospel, you don’t see what the person has — you see the person.
