We have heard the cicadas for a few weeks, but the “deafening” roar isn’t in our neighborhood. It’s nearly a mile away! Drive over there, and there is no mistaking what is taking place.
When I heard the Times-Dispatch’s Rex Springston was looking for information about cicadas in the Richmond area for a story, I sent him an e-mail. He needed to take a drive over there and hear it for himself.
Little did I know my e-mail would lead to the front page.
“Deafening,” said Aaron Lee, who heard them in Western Henrico County.
There it is. You can’t call that 15 minutes of fame. I probably wouldn’t even give it 15 seconds.
Funny, though: I skimmed the story on Friday and missed the quote. Not until Saturday did anyone mention it.
Hard to believe, in a few weeks, they’ll all be gone.
