One of my graduate school professors taught us how to build a strong career alongside our marriage and our family. He said,
“Your kids will leave the house after 18 years, but your marriage lasts a lifetime. Invest in it.”
His conversation that day was very career-centric, focusing on the specifics of our future work, but I think the truth is universal to any marriage.
How is your marriage holding up?
This National Marriage Week, spend some time focusing on your marriage. (It also just so happens to be Valentine’s Day Week, so double the incentive!)
Here are three ways to #StrengthenMarriage in your own life this week:
- Remember why you love him/her: Why did you want to get married in the first place? Sure, your spouse has grown and changed. And so have you! But the first thing might still be true!
- Read/Learn something New This Week: Go to Google and search for “marriage tips.” Find one that makes sense and share it with your spouse. Or go to NationalMarriageWeekUSA.org and search for marriage enrichment events happening soon in your area!
- Do something for him/her: you’ve remembered why you love her/him, now remind him/her why you do love her/him! Give a gift, say something nice, spend time together — whatever you know will mean the most.
I hope your marriage will grow stronger this week!
